The Orchard House is primarily designed to nestle within six of the largest and most viable mango trees within the existing orchard.
The home itself is designed as a modern style home with a focus on natural light, spacious but efficient interiors, ventilation, privacy and a refined use of materials. Modern homes have entered the historic lexicon in Delray Beach and there are several homes within the Old School Square Historic District that have modern characteristics such as carports or flat roofs. The style of the house however is secondary to the primary goal of preserving the historic orchard. The house is set back from the road and has a staggered façade that sets back in part over 70’ from the street. The colors of the home are white with a light warm gray relief along the base of house, a small amount of textured architectural concrete, and wood accents for the doors and gates.
The minimal modern design is intended to react to the light and shadows within the orchard, complementing the landscape rather than competing with it.
